My third extra job came the morning after the hornet sting. It was for the film Oklahoma City: A Survivor's Story and was a much better experience than the previous week. It starred Kathy Baker and Ray Baker, who were both very nice to the extras. Wearing a neck brace, I did a 'Foreground Cross' or 'Wipe' where an extra passes between the camera and an actor. Little did I know, but this would be my last job as an extra.
After a small speaking role as the daughter of a dying woman, which never aired and for which I was never paid, I stopped pursuing acting."
Allex Michael: "There's something to be said about casting the right talent. She's experienced, where I'm not. However, I bring a certain honesty to the role. One of our executive producers says my acting has the 'believability' factor. Plus my scenes with Ebbey are totally convincing because Ebbey is now my canine companion in real life. So it's hard for any actor to eclipse that real life relationship. I'm sure you've seen movies where the dog is watching their trainer off screen versus reacting to the human costar.
As far as the role of Mikella, my writing process involves acting out every role. So, though I didn't always remember my lines, I already had an intimacy with Mikella the search dog handler."
Who was originally cast for the role of Mikella?
Allex Michael: "As a first time filmmaker, it was unrealistic of me to expect someone to devote months of their life to act in an independent film for a deferred salary. Secondly, though Ebbey is absolutely perfect for this role, it is also unrealistic to expect your lead actor to deal with (at that time) an inexperienced semi-wild canine costar. So for those reasons, it wouldn't be fair of me to name the actress who backed out at the last minute. I'm sure it will eventually be revealed. Like everything else with this production, it happened for a reason and hopefully a good one."

Allex Michael: "I also became the unlucky target of a very disgruntled makeup manager. Because there were so many extras, females were to apply their own makeup. Let's just say my application was not to her standards. Nor were my subsequent attempts, with different products. The blush was too red, the blush was too pink, the foundation was too yellow. There was also my allergy to hair products and a bad reaction to a hornet sting.
One inevitable question is...Did Allex do a better job than the originally cast actress?
