Originally, the murder victim was a young boy, but Writer Director Allex Michael decided that audiences would be less traumatized if the victim is a teenager.

The original story line also called for the murdered boy to have been molested by the killer. However, with concerns about ratings, Director Allex Michael left out this information.

There were many discussions about how much clothing the murdered teen should wear.

There were many discussions about the title Search Dog's Raven. Made by an unknown first time director and cast with no big stars, Ebbey the search dog is one major draw of the film. So Writer Director Allex Michael decided the film's title had to exploit this fact.

Allex Michael thought up the idea for Search Dog's Raven in 1995, but didn't start writing the screenplay until 2000.

The subplot of having the team's adventures turned into an animation, came to Allex Michael during the first year 1996. Then a few weeks later, she thought an animated adventure would make a great film spin off in real life. There were no animated series with a similar name or story so she began developing both the film 'Search Dog's Raven' and the animation. Years later, despite the growing abundance of animations, Allex was pleasantly surprised that there were still no animated series with a similar name or story and purchased the domain names in March of 2003. Search Dog's Raven was shot with 35mm film, HD, HDV and SD. During one budget problem, 35mm film clips were hand scanned to save on telecine costs. Director Allex Michael was not pleased with the HDV or SD quality, and later reshot a number of these scenes with 35mm.

The film was initially budgeted at 2.5 million but budget problems led to Director Allex Michael bringing in the film for under 1.5 million. How did she do it? Deferred salaries, doing a lot of the work in house and a lot of creative filmmaking.

With budget fluctuations and other problems that come with making your first independent film, Allex Michael's health began to deteriorate. As her staff and crew were gradually forced to leave for paying jobs, the writer director spent the last eighteen months working 12 to 18 hours a day, 7 days a week. She eats well, and walks the dogs at least 60 minutes a day, but a chronic lack of sleep continually feeds the vicious cycle. Allex jokingly remarks that she's two breaths away from catching the latest pandemic.
